Private Workshop Policy

Group Size & Booking

  • Workshops are designed for small groups of up to 6 participants.
  • Groups under 4 will be charged the minimum rate (equivalent to 4 participants).
  • A non-refundable $50 booking fee is required to secure your date — this covers prep time, materials, and travel coordination.
  • Workshop payment is due in full 7 days prior to the workshop.
  • Workshops typically last 3-4 hours, plus 45 minutes for setup and cleanup.

Location & Travel

  • I currently travel to homes and venues in Portland OR, Vancouver WA, and surrounding areas.
  • A small travel fee may apply for locations outside a 25-mile radius of downtown Portland.

Participant Requirements

  • Due to the use of torches and semi-hazardous tools, participants must be 18+, or 16+ with a parent or guardian present.
  • To ensure a safe environment, it’s best to wait to consume alcohol or recreational substances until after the workshop has been completed.
  • For safety, closed-toe shoes are required during the workshop. Long sleeves should be tight fitting, and long hair will need to be pulled back.
  • All participants are expected to follow the instructor’s direction and safety procedures at all times.
    • Failure to comply with safety instructions may result in removal from the activity without refund.

Physical Requirements & Accessibility

  • Workshops involve light to moderate handwork using torches, files, pliers, and hammers.
  • Participants should have:
    • Sufficient hand and finger strength for shaping and holding tools.
    • Use of shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, and fingers for extended periods of light activity.
    • Ability to sit for the duration of the workshop (approximately 3-4 hours).
    • Fine motor coordination for handling small components and tools.
    • Eyewear (if needed) to assist with viewing small details.
  • If you have any accessibility questions or would like to discuss modifications, please reach out prior to booking — I’m happy to help ensure a safe, comfortable experience for everyone.

Host Responsibilities

  • The host provides a suitable workspace, including:
    • A sturdy table or countertop large enough for all participants (plus extra space for the soldering set-up)
    • An accessible electrical outlet nearby
    • No carpet or rugs directly beneath the workspace
  • Please allow approximately 45 minutes before and after the workshop for setup and takedown.

Liability & Safety

  • The host and all participants accept full responsibility for any and all property damage or personal injury that may occur during the workshop, including setup and takedown.
  • By booking, the host and participants acknowledge that they participate at their own risk and agree to adhere to all safety procedures throughout the session.

Cancellations, Refunds & Rescheduling

  • 7+ days before your workshop — full refund (minus the $50 booking fee)
  • 4–6 days before — 50% refund
  • 3 days or less — no refund
  • The $50 booking fee is non-refundable in all cases.
  • Individual cancellations: If one or more members of your group can’t make it, you’ll be refunded their portion according to the same schedule as above.
    • Reschedules for individuals cannot be accommodated unless the entire group reschedules.
  • Rescheduling: Requests made at least 7 days in advance can be accommodated based on availability.
  • Weather or unsafe travel: workshops may be rescheduled without penalty if conditions are unsafe.
